Retrospective March 2025
Third times a charm
Welcome back friends! This newsletter is already a great example of why taking some time and reflecting is important. I felt like March had been a little underwhelming to be honest, I feel like I have not done a lot. Turns out I did do quite a bit, just in some very focused areas.
My main focus this month has been the website. Bringing over old blog articles and writing new ones. In terms of images it has been a very quiet month with January having 298 images and February having 175 images in my Lightroom catalog compared to the 98 from March.
New blog post: A gear heads gear list
I love chatting about gear, I worked in a camera store for nearly 5 years and loved that most of it was chatting about the different things coming out and what gear would meet peoples specific needs. This article was a deep dive into my kit and what made the grade. You can read about it here.
New blog post: VGP Comparison
This started when the CCD89 preset came out from Very Good Presets and I was trying it out on some images I had previously edited. Then showing a couple of people the different results the conversation with Iain Farrell and Katya Pachera from the VGP team evolved into some more edits and this blog post.
New blog post: Lumix photo hike images
The video for this still needs finishing but the images look really good and I wanted to share them. They were all edited with the Eastman 100 preset from Very Good Presets (There is a trend my work, not sure if you noticed...)
Moved across from the old website
I have moved some of the older pieces from my former site builder into the new one including:
Prints for sale incoming
This image looks a little familiar…
It would probably look good in your house.
I have been pushing having some prints for sale down the road for far too long. There is a lot to do and its in some very early stages so this is more of an intention update and a sneak peek for some of the mockups I have done.
Captured my interest
Orphan X novel series - If you were around for the January retrospective I did mention that I was about halfway through the first book from this series. Well, 3 months in and I am halfway through the 4th book with no signs of slowing down. The 10th book got released this year so I am keen to see if I can finish that before 2025 is done.
Adolescence - It feels like everyone is talking about this and rightly so. This Netflix show is a tough duality. It deals with some pretty heavy and dark storylines which shouldn't be taken lightly. At the same time the cinematic directions of making everything a single take shot and the thought and effort that is involved in that is truly world class. The making of Adolescence is a great look behind the scenes at how they filmed it.

That wraps up March
So looking back I did do a lot of stuff and managed to make a lot of headway with putting things on the website which is great and feels great having some progress and hearing from people who have enjoyed the content.
The ball keeps rolling as we head into April, with some time off work lining up with public holidays I am hoping to spend some of that time getting out and taking some nice images. Until then.
Bye for now,
Tom
