Prime Lenses - Focus Points
I was asked by Iain if I was keen to try out a new format he wants to do as shorter, quick fire questions which he tested at the end of the episode with Becca Farsace. We organised a suitable crossover time between Sydney and Scotland and had a really enjoyable chat, it’s always nice to meet someone more in person than just talking via text over Instagram.
Retrospective April 2025
I think that this month is again proof that small movements forward keep the momentum going. Things that I have spoken about in previous newsletters finally coming to life and being things I can share with people is the continuing motivator of this newsletter.
Websites, the never ending story
It is very easy to think about a website as a project that can be ‘complete’. I am not trying to be the bearer of bad news, I just want the mental shift for it being something thats always evolving.
Retrospective March 2025
This newsletter is already a great example of why taking some time and reflecting is important. I felt like March had been a little underwhelming to be honest, I feel like I have not done a lot. Turns out I did do quite a bit, just in some very focused areas.
Very Good Presets Comparison
When you shoot film, there is a consideration that happens even before you pick up the camera. What stock are you going to load? What commitment are you going to make with the film stock you choose?
Shooting digital did change that order around a bit. Where we can take the image and decide what kind of look we want after the fact. This very much a general statement, quite a lot of looks very much depend on the way you expose the original image. This article is an experiment in how a final result can differ based on preset with similar exposure.
A gear heads gear list
I’ve always been a gear head, I love knowing what people are using, why they choose it and how it fits into their workflow. I also love looking at gear that might not be relational to what I am doing to make my setup better. The perfect example, examining streamers setups to setup my office for working remote.
The gear I have has evolved a lot over the years and is quite expansive. I like to have a setup that even though not everything gets used often, I have the ability to be adaptable.
Retrospective February 2025
The goal of the year is to be more public with my photographic world as well as my work, which is why you’re here in the brand new newsletter, and there is a YouTube video I have made below, and an appearance with a brilliant podcast host even lower down. I have spent a lot of time sitting behind my work and behind the camera, 2025 I will be in front a lot more.
Lumix Photo Hike
I have been wanting to get more involved with the photo community and more people with similar hobbies. I saw this walk through the Lumix AU instagram and jumped on a ticket.
Retrospective January 2025

Fatherhood & Photography
Becoming a parent has been the biggest life changing experience for me. One major adjustment was re-establishing a relationship with photography. It was quite a journey and finding a balance of what I was photographing and when was a big change I had to work really hard to re-establish.
Southie Coffee House
Locals are a key part of Southie with a constant stream coming through the doors on a first name basis. A visit to this cafe seems to be well and truely part of a lot of peoples routine.
Voigtlander 50mm f2 APO
This has to be one of my favourite lenses and works incredibly on digital M bodies.
