Retrospective April 2026

Have we finally hit a groove?

After the start of the year and the whirlwind it feels like it has been, it really does feel like the waves are settling. This last month has had some fun adventures and a big step forward on some projects.

My latest mid month thought which has come through based around a lot of the overlap I have between my career as a software developer and my life as a photographer. AI is something that is here to stay, it's just going to be interesting to see to what end.

I have built and launched the pre order page for the guide! I am really happy with how it has turned out and I have had some really good early response from friends who the guide is aimed at.

I also made a new page on the website talking about it too. That’s over here.

Inner West Ale Trail

A mate of mine has wanted to do this and for his birthday weekend we gathered a group and hit the trail. Marrickville has some incredible breweries and all of these were within walking distance, some you can see while your finishing the beer before. It is a great way to spend an afternoon so if you're in Sydney and looking for a few places to grab a beer, here's your answer.

Latest caffeine acquisitions

On top of my other money pit interests of cameras and watches, the other one usually is coffee. This month I have picked up a few fun new things. I have had my eye on the Paragon Espresso by Nucleus for a while ever since trying a blind tasting at ONA Coffee and have been thinking about them for a while. Dropping through for a coffee while on the Inner West Ale Trail I finally caved and bought them.

The other recent pickup was the Epigraph Coffee Discovery Set which is a 100g sample pack of their 3 blend offerings. All three have been fantastic and I think the Chapter 1: Humble Origins light roast was the winner in my eyes. I also got this little Eau de Parfum made with Coffee Extract which smells incredible.

B roll filming

I got the chance to film some B roll around the office for us to use for a short form video. I took the opportunity to grab myself some footage of myself to put in the b roll folder.

Captured my interest

WideLuxX - This news has been kicking around for a while now that there were plans and it was going to be coming and now we have a pre order for 350 units with a Personalised Monogram to be placed inside each camera. But lets talk about that price...

DJI Osmo Pocket 4 - This one was a big one and hit every news feed I saw, It looks like an impressive set of updates on an already incredible platform. I love my Pocket 3 and it’s still going strong so I don’t think I will upgrade immediately. However that full D-Log is a really nice upgrade.

CineTemp App - I haven't bought this yet but after seeing it on a YouTube Short from Matti Haapoja and I absolutely need to add this to the kit.

That wraps up April 2026

Now that I have opened this retro with how it feels like the waves have been settling, I can already feel the breeze of karma whipping at the sails. Heres to hoping we can keep the progress rolling forward and have some more fun things on the horizon. I’ve even got a little photo buddy in the back seat coming along with me.

Bye for now,

Tom
