Very Good Presets Comparison
When you shoot film, there is a consideration that happens even before you pick up the camera. What stock are you going to load? What commitment are you going to make with the film stock you choose?
Shooting digital did change that order around a bit. Where we can take the image and decide what kind of look we want after the fact. This very much a general statement, quite a lot of looks very much depend on the way you expose the original image. As of writing this I did some checks and I purchased my first pack from Very Good Presets 1 year ago almost to the day. Drawn to the Portra 400 pack and how authentic it looked. Since then I have added quiet a few packs and I find they all have their own use and place in the creative arsenal.
Presets are a starting point to your creative vision and a great starting point to add to. I find mixing and matching modifiers from different packs a great way to bring out my desired look.
I love these presets bring give consistency when shooting both mediums. With film prices being what they are I shoot a lot less film than I would like. But these presets can keep me in the same feel throughout my portfolio.
If you’re interested in trying out Very Good presets on your work there is the Generalities pack which is available for free. Moving on from that I highly recommend the Portra 400 pack which was my starting point. Then, when you’re deep in the system like I am you take a look at the rest of the presets
